Critique of Bonnie Hodges' Portrait Exhibit

Mr. Charles Brady visited Bonnie Hodges' portait exhibit at the Edmonds Public Library recently and offered the following critique:

"Lynn" ... the surrounding desert colors create an amazing "non-contrast" with lady.

"Native American" ... facial colors match well with the facial structures.

"San Juan Pueblo Indian" ... excellent - with the sympathetic coloring.

"English Aristocrat" ... posturing is perfect - unusually good facial structure.

"Night Fishermen" ... curious glances - good matching between the grainy faces, boat surfaces and sweaters.

"Self-Portrait" ... Artist paints an undetermined emotion - on one side with full, strong facial tones, the other side in shadow. Nothing hiding - just the light able to control the magical direction of the light. What a feat! The secret is out ... for it is the artist with her "Brush of Light."

"Pear with Apples" [not at the library exhibit] ... Some ole' fruit on a table? Not quite. Here, the artist paints the subtle, competitive balance between the fruit and the woven colors of the table cloth. What a wonderful diversion.

Many thanks to Mr. Brady for his nice comments.
